More HARC Programs

In 2005, HARC created several new and innovative programs for people with special needs and their families.

Mentor Program - HARC realizes that parental responsibility for people with special needs doesn't end when the child turns 21, and parents of adults with mental challenges need a break as well. We also know that many people with mental retardation still want to be productive citizens in the community. For this reason, HARC has begun a mentor program, where young adults with mental retardation can be helpers in HARC's Friday evening Parents Night Out program while still having the fun of participating in a program as they desire. While HARC mentors do need to have some ability and desire to assist, for some people and families, it is a big blessing.

Parents' Night In - For some folks, a Friday evening out sounds like a great thing, but they really have no place to go. For these people, HARC has developed a special Parents' Night In program. Here, the parents can watch TV, read, shoot pool, visit with other parents, or just relax, all on the HARC campus. Whether parents want to form an informal support group, or just get a few minutes of peace and quiet, the Parents' Night In room is a great alternative.

And this is just the beginning.
